Amicalola Falls Hike, Dawsonville, GA - 6/26/11
Between Elijay and Dahlonega in Dawsonville, GA sit Amicalola Stare Park.. The park's name is derived from a Cherokee word meaning "tumbling waters".
At 729 feet, Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in the Southeast. The trail we took was along a paved path and wooden observation platforms to the base of the falls. From there we climbed about 175 stairs to a bridge that crosses the face of the falls. The falls are spectacular and it was well worth the climb. There is another set of stairs to the top. But the strenuous climb of 425 stairs wasn't on our agenda for the day. Maybe another time.
