Wilson, KS to Smith Center, KS - 2/21/06

From Wilson we traveled up 181, through some beautiful and interesting county. We passed through Lincoln County which is known as the Post Rock capital of Kansas. Because of the lack of trees on the prairie, the ingenious settlers used the native prairie limestone for fence posts, limestone houses, barns, bridges and a few windmills thrown in for good luck. The limestone breaks apart in a post-like shape, making it easy to use. The limestone posts were put into the ground and then barbed wire was wound around the post as you would do with a wooden post.
